Detangler Spray for Mane & Tail
Every hair your brush tears out is length that's gone for good. A horse detangler works by coating hair with slip, so the comb slides through knots instead of snapping them off. Ferro's Release Spray Conditioner does double duty as a leave-in detangler and shine mist — spray it on, give it a moment, then brush. It's the daily partner to the mane and tail wash.
What a Detangler Actually Does
Tangles aren't just random knots — they're spots where the hair's cuticle has roughened up and neighbouring strands catch on each other. A detangler lays down a thin, slick film so those rough patches slide past each other instead of locking together. Less force on the brush means far less breakage, and a tail that holds its fullness season after season.
Using It Without Breaking Hair
- Mist Release over the tail — damp or dry both work fine.
- Give it ten to twenty seconds to work its way down the length.
- Brush from the very bottom up, in small sections — never start at the top.
- Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb first; save the fine brush for the last pass.
Detangler, Shine and Protection Together
Because it's built on conditioning esters rather than heavy silicone alone, the same mist that frees knots also leaves a clean, non-greasy shine and helps repel the dust that starts the next tangle in the first place. That's why it pulls double duty as a show-ring finishing spray too — see the coat shine collection.

Frequently asked questions
Do I rinse a detangler out?
No, you don't. The Release Spray Conditioner is a leave-in — spray it and brush, done. For a deep rinse-out treatment on a very dry tail, reach for the Refresh cream instead.
Will it make the coat greasy or attract dust?
Not if you use it as directed. It's formulated light and non-greasy, and the film that adds slip also helps shed dust. Over-apply any leave-in and residue builds up — a few passes is enough.
Can I use it on the body and forelock too?
Yes. It's safe across the mane, tail, forelock and body coat for detangling and shine alike. Just keep it away from the eyes — wipe product onto the face with a cloth.
Is it safe to use every day before riding?
Yes — a light daily mist before brushing is exactly what it's designed for. It also helps stop the tail from collecting shavings and burrs between baths.
