Horse Coat Shine Spray & Finish

Real shine is just a clean, healthy coat catching the light — never a greasy gloss sprayed over dirt. Getting there takes two things: a coat that's genuinely clean, and a leave-in that adds slip and bounces light back. Ferro pairs the Release Spray Conditioner for everyday and show-ring shine with the brightening Reluminate wash underneath it. Explore the Condition & Shine lineup.

Shine Starts With a Clean Coat

A shine spray can only reflect light off whatever is underneath it. Dust and dull, stained hair kill shine no matter how much product you pile on. That's why the honest route to a glossy coat starts with a good wash — a brightening clarifier or an everyday shampoo — followed by a light finishing mist, not a thick coat of silicone over a dirty horse.

Getting a Clean, Non-Greasy Finish

  1. Bathe and let the coat dry, or at minimum towel it down.
  2. Mist Release lightly over the body, mane and tail from a short distance.
  3. Wipe over with a soft cloth or sheepskin to spread it evenly and bring up the shine.
  4. Keep it off the saddle and girth area, so tack doesn't slip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make my horse's coat shine naturally?

Work it from both directions: good nutrition and turnout, regular currying to bring natural oils to the surface, a proper bath when it's needed, and a light leave-in shine mist to finish. Daily currying does more for shine than any spray.

Will a shine spray make the coat greasy?

It shouldn't if it's a light, non-greasy formula used sparingly, like Release. Heavy silicone 'sheen' sprays and over-applying any product cause greasy build-up — a few passes and a cloth wipe is enough.

Can I put shine spray under the saddle?

No, keep it off the saddle and girth area entirely. Anything that adds slip risks letting tack shift underneath you. Spray the body, neck, mane and tail, and simply avoid where the saddle and girth actually sit.

Do I need a separate shine product from my conditioner?

Not necessarily. The Release Spray Conditioner already pulls double duty as a detangler and a shine finisher, so one bottle covers both jobs for most owners.
